A spokesman said “We do not want misinformation currently being shared about parking to put shoppers off visiting our town centres.

“With the proposed new parking order, one hour free parking will continue across the entire district, whilst introducing a number of two hours free parking bays in main car parks in each town centre.

“The charge for two hours parking in a standard bay is also not changing and will remain at just 60p.

“Providing free and low cost parking in town centres encourages people to use local shops and services.

“Parking fees in Ashfield are cheaper than most other districts and boroughs across Nottinghamshire including Bassetlaw, Mansfield, Newark and more.

The changes will come into effect from May 18.
