Ashfield couple launch Baby Loss Awareness Ball in memory of son
A couple from Annesley Woodhouse who lost their son earlier this year will host a Baby Loss Awareness Ball this October.
On February 3, 2025, Kirsty and Scott Evan's baby boy, Angus, was born sleeping at 24 weeks and one day. The couple's hearts were broken, but they were immensely grateful for the incredible care provided by King's Mill Hospital staff.
At King's Mill Hospital, there is a butterfly suite where families can stay with their baby until they are ready to go home.
Most of the items in the butterfly suite have been donated by previous grateful families, and a great deal of thought and care has gone into the room's setup, shared Kirsty and Scott.

They said the suite is equipped with everything you and your partner might need, from toiletries to clothing and keepsakes. The room also features a cold cot, which allows families extra time with their baby, providing them with some closure.
On the day Kirsty gave birth, she was placed in a standard labour room alongside pregnant women delivering healthy babies. This was due to the fact that two other families were already in the butterfly suites that day.
Later on, when one of those families left, Kirsty and Scott were moved into the butterfly suite. This led them to wonder how often this situation occurs and if other families miss out on precious time with their babies due to a shortage of cold cots.
The lack of cold cots prompted their first fundraising effort in loving memory of Angus Charlie Evans, raising over £10,000 to purchase and donate cots to the suite. The fundraising page can be found here: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/kirsty-evans-203.

The couple's fundraising efforts will continue this October with a Baby Loss Awareness Ball at Mansfield Town Football Club. The event will be hosted by football commentator, Ian Stringer, and will feature a live band, a four-course meal, an auction, a casino, a raffle, and more.
Individual tickets are £60 each, while table tickets for ten people are priced at £500. Sponsorship packages are also available. To book, email [email protected]
