Today’s snowfall caused chaos across Nottinghamshire and made driving conditions treacherous for motorists, with a number of bus services diverted because of snow and ice.

As a result, Ashfield District Council revealed it was unable to complete some waste pick ups this morning, although residents living on the affected roads have been advised to leave bins out for collection tomorrow.

Freezing temperatures are forecast again overnight so some streets may still be dangerous – however the council said it will try and collect all bins as soon as possible.

Coun David Martin, Cabinet Member for. Streets, Parks and Town Centres, said: “With the best will in the world - we have not been able to collect from a number of streets this morning. This is due to the snow. Nottinghamshire County Council only grit the main roads and these roads were impossible to collect from.

“We will endeavour to collect the bins as soon as possible. Weather permitting - that should be tomorrow. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
