The frosts are sharp, the ice is menacing and the weather is bitingly cold. But why should that stop us getting out and about this weekend?
As usual, we have drawn up a list of ten things to do, ten places to go in and around the Mansfield and Ashfield area.
For some, you’ll have to wrap up warm and brave the elements. But for others, the events take place in the cosiness of the indoors.
From the laughs of ‘Only Fools And Horses’ and the sounds of Bruce Springsteen to the delights of the Meden Trail and the charms of Southwell, there’s something for everyone.
Check out our gallery, but please don’t forget to visit the websites of the individual venues for opening times and prices etc.
Some of the venues might also have Covid restrictions in place too.

Everyone knows that Robin Hood lived among the trees of Sherwood Forest. But there was one man who wished he hadn't. Join the Sheriff of Nottingham (pictured) on a family-friendly walk this Saturday morning to unravel the legend of who Robin Hood really was. He will also share intriguing stories of medieval life. This is our third look at Mansfield's unheralded nature reserves. Maun Valley Park is the largest in the district, covering 17 hectares of protected habitats alongside the river and comprising ancient oak woodland, grassland, trees, shrubs and water meadows. The sandy banks along the river are home to insects and many types of fungi. Photo: Submitted
Last week, we told you how to find out more about Southwell. This week, it's the turn of Newark, where two quirky, self-guided heritage walks have been organised. Buy a printed booklet or download its digital version to your phone, follow the map and off you go. Detailed directions to all the main sights are provided, and one of the walks even has a treasure hunt theme for the kids. Photo: Submitted
Hundreds of us start the weekend with a Saturday morning parkrun to blow away the cobwebs. Runners of all ages and abilities gather at venues across the district, one of which is Clumber Park, south of Worksop. It's not a race, but a five-kilometre, timed run that can be fun or as part of a training plan. Photo: Rachel Atkins
'Made In Mansfield', an exhibition about the people and companies that turned the town into a centre of industry, is a popular staple of Mansfield Museum and well worth a visit. It focuses on eight of the most well-known industries that built the town's reputation for manufacturing, including beer-making by Mansfield Brewery (pictured on its last day of production in 2001) Photo: Submitted
