Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero has called on the Government to be more open and honest with pensioners in the area.
Ms De Piero made the call after new figures revealed that 1,080 pensioners in the constituency are set to receive a rise in the state pension of just 87p in April - not the £2.58 a week as previously stated by the Government back in December last year.
Ms De Piero said: “Pensioners in Ashfield are really struggling with the cost of living, and they will be disgusted to find that they will receive an 87p increase to their pension in April instead of the £2.85 a week proudly promised by the Government.
“These are people who have worked hard throughout their lives but now find themselves less well off than they expected. Yet rather than being open and honest, ministers have tried to hide the fact that so many people who have done the right thing and saved hard for a pension are losing out. It’s time Lib Dem and Tory ministers treated the 1,000 or so pensioners in Ashfield affected with the respect they deserve and be upfront about the future value of their state pensions.”
