I would encourage people to make the most of the school holidays, bring a packed lunch and come and try out our state-of-the-art play equipment and family-friendly picnic areas.

“Our investment here demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that our award-winning parks and green spaces continue to provide an enjoyable experience for everyone.”

Youngsters can now play on swings, springers, rockers and a large multi-activity unit containing a slide, roundabout, educational panels and talking tubes.

There is also a colourful play surface containing a snakes and ladder game, while in the surrounding wooded area, children can play on balancing mushrooms.

New litter bins have also been installed and families can make use of benches and four picnic tables.

The new equipment is part of a £202,250 improvement package for parks delivered by the council using section 106 contributions from property developers of new residential developments sited close to the parks and open spaces.

Other projects include a £90,000 outdoor play area on Kings Walk Open Space off Berry Hill Lane.

This should be ready in mid-September and the installation of £52,250 worth of outdoor gym equipment at Kings Walk Open Space and Racecourse Park off Southwell Road West.
