The committee heard that the site is currently vacant and has been so for many years.

A background paper recommending the application states: “The site lies within the main urban area of Sutton as identified in the Ashfield Local Plan Review.

Planning permission has previously been granted on two separate occasions for the development of the site for the erection of dwellings and flats.

“It is therefore accepted that in principle the development of the site for residential purposes would be in accordance with both national and development plan policies.”

There were five letters of objection with concerns about problems with drainage, parking and anti-social behaviour in the local area.

The objectors did not want another housing complex so close to the nearby Framework housing centre.

There will be a 10 per cent affordable housing provision on the site and A contribution of £48,000 for public realm improvements is sought.
