Optical team is looking good

As part of Specsavers’ plans to have all optometrists trained to MECS (minor eye conditions) level two, Nigel Davidson, director at Specsavers in Idlewells Shopping Centre, Sutton-in-Ashfield, has become a lead assessor for the Wales Optometry Postgraduate Education Centre (WOPEC).

The store’s optometry team are trained to the highest levels meaning they can now hold WOPEC optometry training and assessments in-store.

They are accredited to organise and manage local events and assessments for optometrists for both Glaucoma Repeat Measurement services and Minor Eye Conditions Service.

Nigel said: “It’s of real importance to us that as a store we embody and build on the highest levels of clinical excellence.

“It means that our customers are confident that they are getting the best possible care from experts. This is something that we’ve worked really hard to achieve as a team, and we want to share our expertise.

“My qualification as a lead assessor for WOPEC has meant that we can develop this and reach out to other eyecare professionals to help them in their career.”

The store already leads the way by holding clinics to treat MECs on behalf of the NHS, meaning people will not have to wait for GP or hospital appointments for this type of care.
