Proud to join my fellow MPs in getting Brexit done

After more than three long years of debating Brexit, last Thursday MPs finally voted through the Brexit Withdrawal Bill in Parliament.

It was an historic moment and a great honour for me as the MP for Ashfield to walk through the aye lobby with the Prime Minister and all my Conservative colleagues to make sure the democratic will of our great country was finally carried out.

Besides Brexit, it was a very busy week for me in Parliament.

I managed to meet with the Chancellor who spoke with great passion about his investment plans for places like Ashfield.

The key phrase was ‘infrastructure revolution’ which will see hundreds of millions of pounds invested in roads and railways in order to attract jobs and investment to our area.

Never before has a Government emphasised so much the need to invest and level up in areas like Ashfield.

I also met with the Transport Secretary to talk about the Maid Marion Line that will see trains run from Kirkby to Nottingham via Pinxton and Selston.

I will be meeting him again in the near future with my fellow Nottinghamshire Conservative MP’s to put a strong case forward for our area.

I have also booked an appointment with the Health Secretary to see how we can improve things with our local health services and make sure our excellent standards are not only maintained but improved locally.

Before the election, Ashfield was pledged up to £75 million worth of town centre and high street investment from central Government.

Therefore I have also met with the Secretary of State to put a strong case forward to ensure this investment is forthcoming.

It was great to meet up with members of Sutton-in-Ashfield Sailing Club who needed my help in dealing with the council over the future of the club.

My meeting with the council was also very constructive and they are very keen to work with the sailing club to ensure there is way to work together.

Hopefully in the next few weeks I will my constituency office up and running. In the meantime if you need my help then please email me at [email protected].
