Political Opinion: The King’s Speech was a plan to deliver for Mansfield
Every day I hear from people in Mansfield who want the same things – secure jobs, thriving local businesses, safer streets, decent housing, better transport and public services that are there when families need them.
The King’s Speech set out how the Labour Government continues to deliver on those priorities.
We were elected to turn the page and rebuild Britain in the interests of working people.
The programme set out is practical, serious and rooted in the lives of communities like ours.

It is about strengthening our economy, renewing public services, widening opportunity and restoring pride in towns that helped build this country.
For Mansfield, that matters.
Our future is about creating good jobs now, backing local businesses, investing in skills, improving the NHS and our transport network and giving young people the confidence that they can build a good life here.
That is why the King’s Speech was more than a list.
It showed the work we will do to meet your priorities.
The Steel Industry Bill, the Competition Reform Bill, the Regulating for Growth Bill and the Small Business Protection (Late Payments) Bill are so important.
Together, they show a Government prepared to back British industry, support enterprise and stand up for the small firms that are the backbone of our local economy.
The Northern Powerhouse Rail Bill, the Highways (Financing) Bill and the Railways and Passenger Benefits Bill all speak to a simple truth – towns cannot grow if people cannot get to work, training, college, hospital appointments or the shops reliably and affordably.
Better connections are not a luxury for places like Mansfield – they are essential economic infrastructure.
The King’s Speech also focused on energy security, with the Energy Independence Bill and Nuclear Regulation Bill.
Building more clean, homegrown energy is about lowering bills, protecting jobs and making Britain less vulnerable to global shocks.
The Education for All Bill is part of Labour’s promise to make sure every child can go as far as their talent and effort will take them.
Alongside a stronger apprenticeships plan, this is vital for towns like ours, where young people need clear routes into skilled, well-paid work.
The NHS Modernisation Bill is about rebuilding a health service that can meet people’s needs today and in the future.
Waiting lists for diagnosis and treatment are already falling.
The King’s Speech showed how we’ll build on that and make the HNS better for you and your families.
The Police Reform Bill will make our streets safer, the Digital Access to Services Bill will create better access to public services, the Commonhold and Leaseholders’ Rights Bill and the Social Housing Renewal Bill means d ignity and security in housing
This is what delivery looks like – not slogans, but serious legislation
There are no instant fixes after 14 years of failure, and people rightly expect politicians to be honest about that.
But the choice is clear – we can accept decline, or we can get on with the hard work of renewal.
Labour is choosing renewal.
For working people and for places like Mansfield, your Government is making a difference.
Rest assured, I’m doing my job for you, making sure Mansfield’s voice is heard at every stage and that the change promised delivers real results here at home.
