Plush Westminster office reminds me what a privilege it is to be Ashfield's MP

Last week, I finally got the keys to my own office in Westminster and I am chuffed to be honest.

No more sitting around in a corridor with my mobile and laptop trying to keep up to date with all my casework that keeps coming in.

My new office is spacious and comfortable with views of Nelson’s Column, St Paul’s and the London Eye which reminds me what a great country we live in and what a privilege it is to have been sent to Parliament by the good people of Ashfield.

It was a pleasure to meet up with all eight Nottinghamshire Conservative MP’s to talk to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government about our aims for each of our constituencies as well as our collective aims for the whole of Nottinghamshire.

There is a real sense that Nottinghamshire has a strong voice at the very highest level, and you can be assured that we will all be pushing Government every step of the way to ensure our constituencies and the whole of Nottinghamshire get the very best deal.

I also had the chance to meet up with the Fire Brigade Union to discuss the challenges they face moving forward. It was an interesting insight into how the fire brigade has had to adapt over the years to face different challenges and I hope to be spending more time with our local fire fighters soon.

HS2 is never far away from the news and as we get closer to a decision more and more people are contacting me to express their concerns.

There are many benefits to HS2 such as the amount of jobs it would create locally, but it is quite clear from listening to my constituents that they have different priorities.

They would sooner see a much better local bus service in the small villages and rural areas.

I tend to agree, we have some excellent bus services in the largest towns in Ashfield, but it is quite clear that some of our smaller communities do not have access to the same quality of public transport. I am talking with residents’ groups as well attending meetings in Westminster to make my constituents feelings heard.

I hope to have my constituency office open by the end of the month.

In the meantime, if you have an enquiry then please email me [email protected].
