Public sector pay: workers need a voice

My response to Alan Meale’s letter regarding the campaign for fair play for local government workers was one of total disgust.

There was no mention of low paid workers in the private sector, the group that Labour betrayed when they were last in government.

Many of these workers have seen their pension schemes decimated or degraded, Zero hours contracts are rife, and working for agencies on short term contracts are common.

These people need a voice, but we now know which group of workers will get priority if Labour return to power, and low paid workers in the private sector will be left to so called market forces again.

Low pay is a national issue, both public and private, and it’s about time Alan Meale and Labour started looking after it’s own people and fighting for us all, not just one sector.
