LETTER: Brexit is nowhere near '˜on track'

The EU has repeatedly warned us of the absence of detailed plans for the major sticking-points. The Confederation for British Industry (CBI) and trade unions have expressed alarm. It seems clear that there will be a decision this month that our positions on, in particular, the budget contributions, the status of EU nationals here, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) and our citizens and the situation of Ireland are nowhere near resolution. The Home Office has made numerous errors in correspondence with EU nationals here. Our Foreign Secretary, in my view, is an international embarrassment and is kept in place only by the weakness of the Prime Minister, who called an unnecessary election which wasted three months and proved a fiasco. The Brexit Secretary has just warned the Conservative Party conference that there is a real possibility that the talks may collapse completely. Mr Bradley, like his predecessor Alan Meale, was a ‘remainer’ and no doubt feels a sense of responsibility towards the large majority in Mansfield who took a different view. But if this is being on track, Mr Bradley, heaven help us if things start to go wrong.
