LETTER: Aren't folk weird?

Today I decided to walk into town from my humble abode in Old Whittington rather than catch the bus. At 60 years old, I need the exercise.

I took the direct route along Sheffield Road and it took me 45 minutes of brisk walking. Not a single person spoke to me, no one ever glanced in my direction.

It was cold but bright so I decided to walk back along the canal as far as I could then up Newbridge back to home.

Along the way I must have passed at least 50 dog walkers, couples, young people and older citizens like me and 90 per cent either said ‘hello, ey up, you alright’ or responded to my greeting.

So why the difference? Stumps me I’ll tell you.

Aren’t folks weird.

Jack
