Juliet Campbell Column: Supporting Eastwood families to enjoy this summer
This month I am writing about the support the Government is delivering for families this summer.
I know from speaking to families in Eastwood and across our constituency that many are still feeling the pressures of the cost of living.
Parents tell me they are carefully balancing every bill, every shop, and every journey.
That is why I am particularly pleased to see the introduction of Great British Summer Savings. This will make a real difference to families in Eastwood, especially those looking ahead to the school holidays and wondering how they will keep children entertained without stretching already tight budgets.

By cutting VAT from 20 per cent to five per cent on children’s meals and tickets to cinemas, theatres and concerts, and by reducing the cost of attractions such as museums, wildlife parks and soft play centres, this Labour Government is helping families to enjoy those everyday moments that matter so much.
Alongside this, free bus travel for children aged five to 15 this August with participating bus companies will make it easier for families to get out and explore, while continued support on fuel duty will help to keep the cost of everyday travel down.
I welcome the steps this Labour Government has taken to ease pressure on household budgets.
From an average £150 off energy bills, freezing rail fares and prescription charges, to increasing both the national minimum wage and the state pension, the Government is introducing important measures to help people get by.

But life should not just be about getting by.
It should be about being able to enjoy time together, to create memories, and to make the most of moments with family and friends without constant financial worry.
Too often, when budgets are tight, it is the small joys that disappear first, be it a day trip during the summer holidays, a visit to the cinema, or simply a meal out together.
The choices this Labour Government have made are not just about building an economy that is stronger, more resilient, and more prepared for the future.
They’re also about quality of life.
They are about ensuring that every child has the chance to enjoy their summer, and that families can spend meaningful time together.
