I know first hand just how brilliant the NHS is

It was a great privilege for me to make my maiden speech in the House of Commons last week, writes Lee Anderson MP.

I was fortunate enough to do my maiden speech during the second reading of the NHS Funding Bill which meant I was able to talk about the brilliant NHS which has provided my wife with first class health care all her life.

My wife Sinead was born with a condition called cystic fibrosis which in most cases means a short life expectancy.

In December 2016 and with just a few months to live my wife received a lifesaving double lung transplant at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

Without the fantastic NHS staff and the brilliant ongoing care my wife would not be here today.

I am also pleased to see that in just a few months organ donation will work on an opt out basis which means that everyone will automatically become an organ donor unless they opt out of the scheme.

I also spoke in the House last week about the Government’s plans to increase sentencing for the most dangerous criminals.

This is something I support wholeheartedly.

No-one should feel unsafe whilst walking the streets and I was also encouraged to see that, following a police operation on the Carsic Estate in Sutton-in-Ashfield, arrests have been made and known trouble makers have been taken away.

The community group on the Carsic Estate, run by Tracey Greatorex, have been instrumental whilst working alongside the police to make the community a safer place.

I will be keeping my eye on the Carsic Estate and supporting residents every step of the way.

This week, my new constituency office opens in the old DHSS building in Sutton .

I will also be holding roving surgeries in Eastwood, Selston, Jacksdale, Brinsley and in every part of the constituency.

Over the coming months I will be inviting constituents to come and visit Westminster.

The daily tours are free, but I will be arranging transport, therefore there will be a charge to cover the cost.

If you need to book an appointment to see me or are interested in a trip to Westminster then please contact me at [email protected].
