GUEST COLUMN: Youth Arts to put on a show at the Old Library, by Coun Liz Plant

In Good Company is a professional development programme for artists making work in the East Midlands, led by Derby Theatre in partnership with a number of regional theatres and with funding from the Arts Council.

The initiative supports the region’s young and emerging theatre makers and artists as well as giving audiences fresh, innovative and affordable productions.

This exciting theatre programme will continue over the next two years at The Old Library, in Leeming Street, in Mansfield, as part of a new regional theatre partnership.

The programme launches tomorrow (Thursday September 22), with a show straight from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

This is entitled Escape from the Planet of the Day that Time Forgot.

Other productions in the autumn season include:

Love. Life. No Sat-Nav – a brilliant bold live performance from Unanima Theatre Company, the Old Library’s inclusive company in residence, that will make you laugh out loud and reach for the tissues in equal measure.

The First – a play specifically aimed at key stage two children, based on the global events of World War One told from the perspective 
of two small boys from a small town in the East Midlands.

Inspire is a community benefit society which delivers a range of cultural, art, library and learning services on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, including County Youth Arts, based at the Old Library in Mansfield.

With more than 25 years of experience of working in the youth arts sector, County Youth Arts has excellent resources, a highly skilled staff team and a large pool of suitably qualified industry professionals all focussed on delivering practical, targeted and accredited work to young people.

It is wonderful to see Inspire’s County Youth Arts team at The Old Library working with such a diverse range of partners to provide an innovative programme for the region’s theatre goers – as well as opportunities for young people and artists to develop and showcase their talents.
