Amongst those to benefit is the Bulwell Foresters Archery Club, which received £3,750, Mansfield Giants Basketball team landed £4,880, Mansfield and District Samaritans were given £4,500 , Ashfield-based East Midlands Cheer Elite received £4,775, Heathlands Out of School Club in Rainworth took £3,933 while the Friends of Titchfield and Oakham were handed £4,855.

Andrena Jenkinson is programme support officer Coalfield Regeneration Trust (CRT), which was set up to support and help regenerate former mining towns.

She said: “Trustees of CRT are delighted to have supported these groups to provide much needed services to their communities.

“During these difficult economic times smaller community groups find it increasingly difficult to find funds to keep their projects going and have to look at alternative ways of funding themselves. By applying to our Coalfield Community Grant programme, they can access funding up to £5,000 for projects that impact positively on people living in our former coalfields communities.”
