At the start of last week I received a lovely email from a lady I’ve got to know very well over the last few years.
She told me how she was absolutely over the moon to find out that 18 months after nominating local woman Anne Callaghan for a Queen’s birthday honours award for her outstanding work with children and families as a parent practitioner across Mansfield and Ashfield, Anne had just been awarded the British Empire Medal.
It’s great to know that people who work tirelessly for their local communities are being recognised. Congratulations.
Can you help? – Skegby Girl Guides are hoping to take a few of the girls to a huge international camp which is to be held on the Chatsworth Estate in July.
For some of the girls it will be the first time that they get the chance to go on a weeklong camp, mix with other Guides and Scouts from the
rest of the country and from abroad.
They will learn about other cultures, try new activities, develop new skills and make friends.
They are already busy doing lots of fundraising, including sponsored events, coffee mornings, cookery and baking competitions, charity stalls, quizzes and clothing sales to help pay for a list of essential equipment such as tents and cooking utensils.
They’ve got a lot to raise in a short space of time so if anyone out there is able to help out in any way – no matter how big or small then get in touch with Pam on 01623 440580 or email email@example.com.
You could really make a difference.
I never cease to be amazed by the initiative of kids in Ashfield.
The Year 4 children from Kirkby Woodhouse Primary School sent me dozens of letters raising a wide range of issues including litter, dog fouling, drug use, animal cruelty and traffic outside their school.
I asked both the police and the council to look into their concerns and I’m really pleased that they are taking it so seriously.
PCSO Freeman is going to arrange to see the pupils and chat to them as is the council’s community protection and environment team.
Talk about getting things done!
As ever if you have a concern or issue please do get in touch with me on 01623 720 399 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. I’ll always get on the case for you.
