At the council we are trying to consider how we can help everyone’s health and wellbeing by improving things and looking at how things can be better in the future.

Everyone knows that a little exercise every day can make you physically healthier but it is also good for your mental health and outlook on life.

We have been encouraging people to get involved with Everyone Health’s walks that take place every two weeks.

They provide the perfect opportunity to get exercise and fresh air, meet new people and discover new parts of the district.

See here for details.

We are also looking at the bigger picture and I have launched the Mansfield Health Partnership.

The aim is to work with the NHS, GPs, Public Health, Active Notts and many other partners to improve services that impact your health.

Many will be aware that we are making plans to regenerate Mansfield town centre and surrounding areas and health is at the forefront of our minds when considering designs.

This may include safe pedestrian and cycling routes, green space, improved accessibility, access to culture, arts and activities that contribute to mental wellbeing, clean air and more opportunities to be physically active.

There’s a wide range of activities at our local leisure centres and you can kick-start your fitness journey with a free seven-day trial and also your own, personalised fitness programme.

You can enjoy gyms at each centre, more than 75 classes, swimming at two centres and more.

On Sunday, March 1, I will be supporting the annual Big Red Ride cycling event organised by Mansfield Road Club.

I will be among the hundreds of riders, of all abilities, who will set off from the John Fretwell Centre at 9am.

It is not a race or a charity ride, riders set off in groups of differing abilities with the aim of completing a pre-determined route within specified times.
