Mansfield mayor urges people to work positively together to avoid further Covid restrictions

It is only natural that people, especially those whose livelihoods are most affected, question the need for the current Covid-19 restrictions when Mansfield’s infection rates are lower than many other parts of Nottinghamshire.

The reality is that things have been moving fast in the wrong direction and if this continues, extra restrictions could be required in Mansfield.

It is vitally important that we all follow the rules to the letter because the demand on our hospitals is increasing every day.

The one lesson we all should have learned from March is that if you don’t curb infection rates many more lives will be lost and businesses closed.

Help us commemorate our past and present armed forces by sharing stories and photos of your heroes with the council by emailing [email protected].

These will be shared on the council’s social media ahead of Remembrance Day.

We are also encouraging people to watch a short private service on Facebook @MyMansfieldUK from 10.50am on Sunday, November 8.

Despite these necessary changes, there are still many positives to celebrate including the news that Carr Bank, Titchfield, King George V, Peafield and Yeoman Hill parks and the nature reserves at Quarry Lane and The Carrs in Warsop have again won prestigious national Green Flag awards.

The council has achieved so much on the green agenda, putting in a successful £1 million bid for funding to improve the town centre with more green spaces.

It has also secured a £500,000 greener homes grant to install external wall insulation to 70 properties, helping to reduce fuel poverty.

Meanwhile we await imminent news on our £25 million future high streets submission and are about to submit our £25 million bid to the towns fund.

If successful, it will ‘supercharge’ regenerating our district, so stay positive, things will get better.
