A 77-year-old Hucknall widow, FLORRIE BUZZARD, is found dead in her bed. A post-mortem examination shows she died from natural causes and there is no inquest.

Mrs Buzzard was the wife of the late C.H.BUZZARD, who was secretary of the Hucknall branch of the British Legion for many years.

WHAT LIFE WAS LIKE -- pride is a foolish reason not to apply for NATIONAL ASSISTANCE, says the local Board manager in a talk to Bulwell No 1 Old Age Pensioners Association.

He claims the assistance is a RIGHT and the Board can help with anything from providing coal to a home help and from medical advice to wigs if there is a genuine need..

A writing desk said to have belonged to LORD BYRON is sold for £862 in an auction of contents of the Labia Palace on the Grand Canal in Venice.

NAMES -- the rector of Bulwell for the last 19 years, Canon GEORGE SPRITTLES is married at the age of 77 to Doris Stone, of Arnold.

The service takes place at SOUTHWELL MINSTER and the rector’s curate, the Rev C.H.Hind, is best man.

The death occurs at the age of 51 after a short illness of SIDNEY BAILEY, of Fox Meadow, High Leys Road, Hucknall.

Mr Bailey was a builder by trade and bult the bungalow where he lived. He was a keen animal lover and kept a FOX as a pet for six years.

He is one of 13 local people whose DEATHS are reported in this week’s edition of the Dispatch.

A WOMEN’S team beat a men’s side 4-2 in a charity football match on the St Albans Road playing field in Bulwell.

The women’s goalkeeper is helped by a group of BOYS who run in front of the goal to kick away several net-bound shots.

Sometimes, the women get bored wih conforming to the rules and try a spot of RUGBY and netball as well.

The chaotic match is refereed by former Notts County and England centre-forward TOMMY LAWTON, who must have wondered what he had let himself in for.
