Last week, I met with Matt Hancock MP, the Health Secretary, and Mansfield MP Ben Bradley to discuss the local NHS.

It is no secret that Kings Mill Hospital has one of the worst private finance initiative (PFI) deals in the country which has meant a crippling debt of £1 million a week in repayments.

At a time when health services are under increased pressure, this money would be better spent on patient services rather than a service contract.

Mr Hancock is looking into PFI deals across the health service to find a way of getting a better deal, to save money and put that money back into the NHS.

We also spoke about the need for extra capital investment for Kings Mill Hospital and it is something that I will be pushing for whilst ever I am the MP for Ashfield.

After meeting with the policing minister, I was pleased to see that Nottinghamshire has been awarded an extra £16.1 million in funding which will help improve front line services.

There is also a national recruitment campaign currently underway to recruit and extra 20,000 police officers and once again I will be making a case to get as many of these officers on to the streets of Ashfield.

Prime Minister’s Questions was a lively affair last week and I was delighted that my two guests from Sutton-in-Ashfield were there to witness it first-hand.

Sean Richardson and his 13-year-old son Joe made the long journey to watch the Prime Minister face questions in the chamber.

Joe did tell me afterwards that he enjoyed the bit where they shouted at each other!

One again I met up with me fellow Nottinghamshire Conservative MPs at Nottinghamshire County Council to let officers and elected officials know what we want for our areas.

I want to see Ashfield have a stronger voice at County Hall to make sure it gets the best deal possible.

Last week, I hosted my first pint and politics event since being elected at the Wrinkly Dog in Sutton.

It was a great event and something I want to continue doing throughout the constituency so if you have a venue in mind and want to invite me along then please email me [email protected].
