Ashfield MP is perfectly happy how he conducts himself and has no intention of changing

We are in the middle of a culture war in this country and it is a war we must not lose, or we face a loss of identity and having our history eradicated.

The latest nonsense to surface is the news that MP’s may have to receive ‘unconscious bias’ training delivered by consultants who have declared the words ‘lady’ and ‘pensioner’ to be offensive.

Yes, this is really happening but let me be clear, I will not be taking part in any training or receiving any advice on the history of my country or the words I can use.

I had a good upbringing in Huthwaite where my teachers and parents made sure I knew where I was from and how to conduct myself from an early age, so the idea that I need training up on our history and language is ridiculous.

I get back to Ashfield every Thursday and the first thing I do is to surround myself with normal people.

I love walking down Nottingham Road in Eastwood talking to residents and then popping in to see Dave and Kathryn in the Dog and Parrot Pub.

These are real people from the area who tell me what is going on and what they think.

Saturdays are spent having a walk round Sutton or Kirkby where I am stopped frequently where people will tell me exactly what they think.

It is the same in Brinsley and Selston where people will stop for a chat and tell me how it is.

Every Sunday I take a walk with my wife and the dog around Brierley Park in Huthwaite where I get the chance to talk to real Ashfield folk, or the fishermen at the lake such as Pat and Gary who are ex-miners and do not mince their words with me.

They voted for me and I speak on behalf of the people I know and I will never forget that.

I do not need some consultancy to teach me about my history or culture, my family and constituents are more than capable of doing that.

Last week, an Ashfield woman asked for my help to help her get a refund of the £3,600 she had paid for a used car under the 30-day rule.

The garage were refusing so I went to the garage to meet them with my constituent and her husband

Result – £3,600 back into my constituent’s account immediately.

If you need my help then please call my office on 01623 550604.
