Ashfield MP and Prime Minister both agree that disastrous PFI deals have to be changed

Last week, I had my first chance to ask a question at Prime Ministers Questions, writes Lee Anderson MP.

I asked the Prime Minister to reassure me that PFI deals like the one to build Kings Mill Hospital at a cost of £1 million a week should never be allowed to happen again.

The Prime Minister agreed with me and the Health Secretary is looking at PFI contracts across the country to see if there is any way to re-negotiate these deals to save money and then plough it back into front line health services.

In 1998, Helen McCourt was murdered in St Helens just a few minutes from her home.

The murderer refuses to say where her body is and was released on parole two weeks ago.

I spoke in the chamber during the second reading of the ‘Helens Law’ Bill which will see parole boards given powers in law to ensure offenders such as murderers and paedophiles disclose information before any chance of parole.

As I said in my speech, murderers should not be released if they have not disclosed where the victim is.

Helen’s mum Marie McCourt was in the public gallery during the debate,

Marie has led this campaign and deserves enormous credit and I have written to her to thank her for making Government listen and ultimately change the law.

Also last week, I met with Melanie and Mark Wilson whose son Riley suffers from a severe form of autism.

They have both given up their jobs to dedicate their time creating the only sensory play bus in the country.

They have converted a bus by installing specially adapted play equipment for children who suffer from health problems like Riley

I will be meeting up again very shortly with the Wilsons to have a guided tour of the brilliant bus and you can follow Riley on Facebook at https://m.facebook.com/thesecretlifeofrileyx/

Last week, four of my constituents, Paul and Billy-Jo Arnold and Martin and Stella Hallam came down to London to enjoy a free tour of Westminster.

My constituency office is now up and running so if you need my help or you want me to organise a free tour of Parliament then please get in touch on 01623 550604 or [email protected].

Lee Anderson is MP for Ashfield.
