This is a contributed party political press release. This website and its associated newspapers support no political party and it does not necessarily reflect our views. We consider contributed releases from all lawful parties as part of the vibrant debate in the run-up to the General Election and would encourage all candidates to use this platform to positively explain their vision and policies for their local communities.
As your Ashfield Independent candidate for the next Member of Parliament, I am passionate about the environment. This isn't just a political stance—it's a personal mission, deeply rooted in my commitment to protecting our natural world and ensuring a sustainable future for our community and generations to come.
Why Protecting the Environment Matters

Hide AdOur environment is more than just a backdrop to our daily lives. It's a vital component of our health, our economy, and our quality of life. Clean air, fresh water, and green spaces contribute to our physical well-being and mental health. They provide habitats for wildlife, support biodiversity, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Protecting our environment is crucial not only for preserving the beauty and diversity of our landscape but also for ensuring a sustainable future. If elected, I pledge to be a tireless advocate for policies that promote environmental health and sustainability.
Concrete Steps for a Greener Future
-
Tree Planting and Urban Greenery
Over the past few years, I have personally overseen the planting of more than 10,000 trees across Ashfield. Trees are not just beautiful; they are essential for sequestering carbon dioxide, reducing urban heat, and supporting wildlife. As your MP, I will expand this effort, advocating for more green spaces in our urban planning to enhance air quality and provide havens for both people and wildlife. I will also fight against Government plans to force mass housing on open green spaces - just as I always have.
-
Electrification of Council Vehicles
I initiated the transition of our council vehicles to electric power. This move has significantly reduced our carbon footprint and has set an example for other Councils. As MP, I will push for broader adoption of electric vehicles in large Council fleets, including incentives for public transport, making sustainable transportation accessible and attractive.
-
Creating Bee Corridors
Bees play an essential role in pollinating crops and wild plants. To support these crucial insects, I championed the creation of bee corridors—stretches of habitat planted with flowers and shrubs that provide bees with a continuous food source. I will continue to advocate for the protection of pollinators by promoting pesticide restrictions and supporting organic farming practices.
-
Solar Energy on Public Buildings
By installing photovoltaic cells on public buildings, we have harnessed solar energy to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and cut energy costs, saving the taxpayer money. Most recently we have fitted new panels on High Pavement House in Sutton, and on the Hucknall Leisure Centre, as well as installing light tubes on converted shops along Low Street. I will push for increased investment in renewable energy infrastructure, including solar and wind, to make our energy supply greener and more resilient.
-
Increasing Recycling Rates
Under my leadership, we have significantly boosted recycling rates through public awareness campaigns and improved facilities. As MP, I will support national policies to reduce waste, promote the circular economy, and encourage sustainable product design and packaging.
-
Local Policies and National Change
Locally, I led efforts to stop fracking in Nottinghamshire, protecting our water sources and natural habitats from harmful practices. I also pushed house builders to install bee bricks, bat roosts, and hedgehog holes, integrating wildlife conservation into urban development. I will continue to fight against environmentally destructive practices and advocate for policies that promote harmony between development and nature.
In conclusion, protecting our environment is not just about responding to current crises but about proactively creating a sustainable and prosperous future. With your support, I can continue to lead with vision and integrity, ensuring that our natural heritage is preserved for future generations. Let's work together to make our community a beacon of environmental stewardship and sustainable living.
Your support will not just elect an MP—it will drive the changes we need for a greener, healthier future. Vote for real, positive change. Vote independent.
