Ben Bradley MP: 'We need to keep people safe and also ensure they are able to earn a living'

This week many people are looking to the future, after the PM said he intends to start to lay out plans for an easing of restrictions over the coming weeks and months.

People are quite rightly wary of the risks and so this plan will be managed and phased over time to limit those risks in the best way that we can. We need to keep people safe, and also ensure that people are able to earn a living and provide for their families too.

We will strike this balance very carefully, guided by the best available science.

As we move forward, discussions will begin again about the future in other policy areas too and I’ve been pleased to spend time this week going over proposals for our £50m town deal and future high streets funding once again.

Despite the clear economic challenges that exist, this money still has the potential to make a big impact once high street businesses are back up and running and we need to make plans to change the nature of our town centre.

Attracting visitors to town is the key to the high streets funding. I’ve started a survey on this issue this week, where you can let me know your thoughts.

The town deal element covers the wider local economy, not just the high street, and we can look to invest here in skills and training or public transport for example.

Key local issues that can have the most impact on our future.

These are matters of huge importance for our area and I can assure residents that the process of planning for this investment is still going on behind the scenes.

I’ll be laying out some of my own thoughts in the coming weeks to get your view, and keeping you up to date as ever.

So as the prime minister comes forward with some proposals about how we might begin to get things moving again this week, with details of what might happen and when, we’ll be looking to the future here locally too at how we might change things for the better, and make the most of the £50m.

Please stick to the advice, listen and act accordingly if it changes over the coming days and weeks, and do everything you can to keep yourself and others in our community safe.
