One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson to pull on Doncaster Rovers shirt again

Doncaster pop sensation Louis Tomlinson is to pull on his Doncaster Rovers shirt and take to the field once again later this year.

The Bessacarr boy band star has confirmed that he will make an appearance in the red and white hoops when he plays in a special ‘Rovers Legends’ game to mark long-serving Rovers midfielder James Coppinger’s testimonial year.

The game will take place on April 19 at the Keepmoat Stadium and thousands of fans are expected to turn out for the fundraising game.

It will be the singer’s second appearance for Rovers following his appearance in a reserve game against Rotherham United last year.

That brief appearance in a drab 0-0 draw drew in One Direction fans from across the globe with deafening screams everytime the star touched the ball.

Last summer Louis was involved in a failed takeover bid for the club alongside former chairman John Ryan but the deal collapsed at the eleventh hour, leaving scores of young fans disappointed.

And the singer will be hoping for more luck than when he played in a charity game at Celtic in 2013 when a challenge from Gabby Agbonlahor left him vomiting on the sidelines in the full glare of the television cameras.

The star has announced he will appear for Coppinger’s game on April 19.

The 34-year-old stands second in the list of Rovers’ all-time appearance makers, having made 440 appearances for Doncaster since joining on a free transfer from Exeter City in 2004. Only Colin Douglas (468) has made more appearances.

Doncaster are pencilled in to play Middlesbrough in Coppinger’s testimonial game in July, but that fixture is dependent on both sides being in different leagues next season.

Plans for a golf day in May and Sportsman’s Dinner in August have also been unveiled.
