Teams from across Mansfield and Ashfield are in training for the third annual March for Heroes sponsored walk from Crich to Mansfield in support of Mansfield’s Heroes Memorial Fund.
Fifteen different teams have already signed up for the 14.5 mile walk on 21st May, from the Crich Memorial to the Nell Gwyn pub, but the organisers are hoping for even more as they push on to raise funds to complete the new memorial that is being built in Carr Bank Park.
“The annual sponsored walk is becoming something of a calendar event now and grows in popularity each year. We are hoping that this will be the biggest turn out to date with lots of new teams taking part.
“The new memorial is nearing completion at the moment but the charity has other aims. It is committed to raising funds to maintain the memorial and also to support ex-servicemen and women in the County – with more walkers we can achieve so much more,” said a Mansfield’s Heroes Memorial Fund spokesperson.
The walk will be leaving the Crich Memorial ground at 8.15am on 21st. National bus and coach operator, Stagecoach, has stepped in to provide a bus to take the walkers from the Sir John Cockle pub to Crich so walkers’ cars can be left in Mansfield. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and will need to be booked with organisers.
Teams already taking part from pubs include: Bold Forester, Top House, Cavendish Social Club, The Westfield, Blue Bell, Redgate, Nell Gwyn, Local Inn, Rifle Volunteer, Newgate Lane Social Club, Sir John Cockle, The Rushley, Speed the Plough and Westhouses Social Club. Other teams include Sutton Road School and King’s Mill Nurses.
