AN OLLERTON couple who love to go out dancing have waltzed their way to 60 years of happy marriage.
Des and Jean Knowles, of The Markhams say they’ve always looked out for each other and enjoy spending time together.
The pair met after Des used to come over to Ollerton from Edwinstowe with his friends.
He said Jean took his eye, they started courting then married two years later at St Mary’s Church in Edwinstowe. They honeymooned in Blackpool.
Des (82) worked at Thoresby Colliery, while Jean (78) made her living as a postwoman.
They have two sons, four daughters, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who helped them celebrate the milestone with a huge party at Walesby Social Club.
Des said: “There was about 100 people there, our daughters really did us proud by decorating the place for us, it was fantastic.”
The couple started going dancing 13 years ago and like to go on cruise holidays about twice a year.
“We’ve had some great holidays in The Caribbean, Mediterranean and Scandinavia,” Jean said.
And Des added how enjoying each other’s company has been the key to a happy relationship for the couple.
He said: “I sometimes read reports in the Chad about couples never arguing.
“We have arguments but enjoy ourselves and look after each other.
“We like to get out as much as we can and go dancing with our friends twice a week which we really enjoy.”
