Obese people in Mansfield could be classified as disabled after European Court ruling

Some obese people in Mansfield could be classed as disabled as a result of a ruling by the European Court.

Yesterday the European Court of Justice said obesity could be considered a disability if it “hinders the full and effective participation of the person concerned in professional life on an equal basis with other workers”.

Some 235,000 24 per cent of people in Notts 24 per cent are overweight – slightly lower than the national average of 24.2 per cent.

Mansfield, Ashfield and Bassetlaw all score above the national average, with obesity rates of 28.4 per cent, 25.6 per cent and 24.5 per cent respectively.
