Pupils and staff at Oak Tree Primary School are celebrating after winning the brand new category ‘Our School’ at Mansfield BID’s Garden and Craft Festival.
The school was presented with their £100 prize for their competition entry, as well as a goody bag, trophy and certificate.
Learning Support Assistants Michelle Enright and Kerry Tuck worked with pupils to create a display of photographsshowing the school’s garden areas and the things the children have grown.
The Mansfield BID team proposed the competition as they noticed that many schools were planting and looking after community areas.
Oak Tree Primary School’s winning display showed the children working in the garden and the flowers and vegetables they have grown, as well as the minibeasts they find.
Head teacher Mark Thrower said: “We thought it was important to show our community what we have achieved in school using the areas that we have recently developed, supported by local funders and companies.
The £100 will help school continue to develop the garden areas and to buy seeds and plants next year. We want to thank Mansfield BID and the sponsors for giving us this opportunity.”
