Notts woman horrified as man in car performs sex act in front of her

A Nottinghamshire woman who was followed by a man in a car who then performed a sex act in front of her is urging females in the area to be vigilant.

Diane Cartlidge has spoken of her horror at the incident, which happened on Netherton Road in Manton, Worksop.

It comes after a spate on incidents involving female pupils being followed as they walked home from school by a man in a car who then “exposed himself” to them.

Diane, aged 51, says she is now afraid to walk around the area alone following the incident on the morning of Tuesday, July 5.

She said: “When I saw what the man was doing, I just to fell to pieces.

“My first thought was, what if I had been a teenage girl or even a child?

“I had taken my car in for repairs that morning at about 9.15am.

“I was walking along the road when I noticed a silver Mercedes travelling really slowly behind me.

“I didn’t think anything of it at first. I assumed the driver might have something wrong with his car.

“But then he sped past me and pulled up at the side of the road.

“As I walked past, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw him performing a sex act while he was watching me.

“He obviously saw that I had noticed, but just carried on, even when I looked at the registration plate so I could report him.”

Nottinghamshire Police have already stepped up patrols in Worksop after reports of “suspicious behaviour” were made by school pupils, who said they had been followed by a man in car.

Earlier this year, one pupil from Outwood Academy Portland had to escape through an estate when a man exposed himself to her.

However, it is not yet known if these incidents are connected to the one which happened on July 5.

Diane said: “I’ve lived in the area all my life and I have always felt safe walking around until now.

“I just hope this vile person is caught before it happens to someone more vulnerable.”

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said the incident was being investigated.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 165 of July 5.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
