Notts Police is recruiting 999 call operatives

Applications are now open to work for Nottinghamshire Police in the control room as an Emergency Call Handler.

The force is looking for permanent team members who will be able to do 37 hours per week on a rotating shift pattern including nights and weekends.

The starting rate ranges from £19,521 to £21,618 and after successfully completing 13 weeks of training candidates will be eligible to receive a shift pattern bonus of up to £6,500.

The control rooms cover the emergency 999 and non-urgent 101 numbers and are the first port of call for people seeking police support. The Force handles an average 1,632 calls per day.

A force spokesman said: “The job is incredibly varied, with every day being different and bringing their own challenges.

“The calls from the general public vary from the first critical moments of an incident or major crime investigation, comforting a caller in distress or politely remind someone that the 999 emergency number should not be used when you are locked outside of your house.”

Nottinghamshire Police want to recruit ‘talented people with a diverse range of skills and experience who are committed to making a difference to the communities that we serve’.

The spokesman added: “Recruiting from the widest pool of people will mean we recruit individuals who can speak other languages, understand other cultures and lifestyles and are willing to use those skills to the benefit of the community and the organisation. A more diverse workforce will build trust and confidence across communities, leading to sharing of information and closer working.”

For those interested in applying there will be two support sessions Thursday, April 19 at Southglade Access Centre, Southglade Park, Southglade Road, Bestwood, NG5 5GU at 9-10.30am and 11am-12.30pm.

Applications can be submitted before the closing date of Friday, April 20 but the force recommends having the application checked over at these sessions before submitting.

The sessions will give you details about the role and give you advice on the application process.

There will also be a number of practice tests to assess your suitability for the role.

The sessions will be first come, first serve, so you must register your interest. To book a place by call Bestwood Directions on 0115 9755758 or emailing
