Notts police backs tackling terrorism in communities

A force spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “It’s more important than ever that everyone plays their part in tackling terrorism.

“Your actions could help police prevent terrorism and save lives.

“Like other criminals, terrorists need to plan. If you see or hear something unusual or suspicious trust your instincts and act by reporting it in confidence.

“Any piece of information could be important, it is better to be safe and report.”

The Action Counters Terrorism policies states ‘like other criminals, terrorists need to plan. They need to prepare, buy and store materials, and find ways to fund their activities. Much of this is done in view of the public.’

The message for dealing with terrorism in communities is once again to report any suspicious activity or behaviour and anything which seems out of place, unusual or just does not seem to fit with everyday life.

The things the ACT suggest people look out for include;

• Knowing someone who travels but is vague about where they are going, or someone who has multiple documents in different names.

• Someone receiving unusual items from online purchases.

• Those who work in car hire rental should look our for any sales or rentals which seem unusual.

• Terrorists need to do reconnaissance before an attack so if anyone who has been seen making notes about CCTV placement or security arrangements call the counter terrorism police.

A spokesman for the Action Counters Terrorism team said: “When you make a report about suspicious activity or behaviour, our specially trained officers and police staff will take the details and pass these on for further checks.

“The information you provide will be kept secure and your identity will be protected.

“Your call is not recorded and you do not need to give your name. Don’t be concerned about wasting police time.”
