Notts PCC learns about victim support

Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Paddy Tipping met caseworkers at Nottingham Victim CARE (Cope and Recovery Empowerment) - the new service run by social business Catch22 to deliver free practical and emotional help to those affected by crime and antisocial behaviour across Nottinghamshire.

The service, commissioned by the PCC, has been in operation since the start of the year and is already delivering daily holistic one-to-one support to a significant number of victims, helping them to move on with their lives and reduce their risk of repeat victimisation.

Nottingham Victim CARE is staffed by a team of professional caseworkers, who are supported by volunteers, and delivers a range of advice and support services for victims of crime and incorporates restorative justice methods, advocacy, information and advice, and drop-in facilities from a victims’ hub and across the county in a variety of community locations. It also includes access to a hardship fund to smooth the journey to recovery for vulnerable people.

Mr Tipping said: “I was really impressed with the speed at which victims of crime can now access help and the specialist support services available through the new dedicated team.

“Unless vulnerable people get the support they need from the outset, very often their problems can escalate and affect many aspects of their lives including their relationships, families, work and education.”
