Notts miners asked to recall their experiences

Former miners who crossed the picket lines during the infamous strikes in the 1980s are being urged to come forward and tell their stories for a new audio and photography project.

Photographer Vanessa Short has launched ‘Other Side of the Line’, a personal project in which she hopes to speak with those who returned to work during the bitter stand-off, including those who worked at the collieries in Nottinghamshire.

She has already spoken with two former miners from the region, but is now wanting more to come forward and give their accounts. Not only that, she is also hoping to speak with the miners’ families about their experiences.

She said: “Over the years there has been lots documents regarding the strike but no one has looked towards those that returned or given them a voice.

“I believe these accounts of the strike are important and need to be preserved for future generations to hear to learn about our industrial heritage.”

Anyone willing to speak ab out their experiences is being asked to contact Vanessa on 07580506287 or through the website www.othersideoftheline.co.uk
