Notts man killed in Dorset collision

A man from the Nottinghamshire area has been killed in a road collision in Dorset, police have revealed.

The 47-year-old, who has not yet been named, died in the crash near Winterbourne Abbas on the A35 just after 8am yesterday morning when a silver Rover and a blue Daihatsu collided head-on.

The man was driving the Rover and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics, a Dorset Police spokesman said.

Another man and a woman travelling in the same car were rushed to Dorset County Hospital, along with the driver of the other vehicle.

The road was closed for several hours and diversions were put in place by Dorset Police and the Highways Agency.

Traffic Inspector Colin Bell said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this collision or the manner of driving of the Daihatsu or the Rover prior to the collision to contact investigating officers. The road was closed for five hours to allow collision investigators to carry out a full and thorough examination of the complex scene”

Police were unable to release further details about the dead man at this time.
