Carl Webster, 25, previously of Waterloo Crescent in Radford, Nottingham, was jailed on Friday May 1 for arson reckless as to whether life would be endangered after admitting he had made threats to his son’s life during filming.

He had made repeated threats to burn down the home of his former partner, killing their son, after she had refused to allow him to move back into her home.

The ex-partner did not contact the police as she did not take the threats seriously.

On 25 November, 2014, she was contacted by the Jeremy Kyle show after they received a call from Webster asking for a DNA test in relation to his son.

Webster and his former partner were filmed for the show on November 27 and, during filming, Webster was asked whether he had threatened to burn his son alive. He admitted he had, said Nottinghamshire Police.

Just two days later, on 29 November 2014, Webster started a fire in the electric meter outside his ex-partner’s home. Fortunately, she was alerted to the smoke by her young daughter and everyone was able to get out of the house unharmed.

When he was arrested Webster told officers that there would not be a court case – there would be three funerals instead.

He was jailed for four-and-a-half years after admitting the potentially deadly arson attack and harassment.

Due to the threats made the epidose of Jeremy Kyle never aired.

PC Janet Percival, the investigating officer in the case, said: “Webster’s actions, along with his campaign of threats against his ex-partner and their child, have taken a toll on the victim.

“Webster’s actions could easily have had tragic consequences had the fire not been spotted so quickly.
