Nottinghamshire students see how IT helps the Manchester City FC

Vision West Nottinghamshire College pupils studying for a level three extended diploma in IT visited Manchester City Football Club’s Etihad Stadium to get an insight into how technology is helping the club and its players develop.

They were shown how the club uses information systems to make informed decisions relating to ticket sales and saw the complex control systems to operate the gates and ticket turn-styles.

They also saw how technology is also used to collate data to enhance the players’ training during coaching programmes, as well as tailoring tactics to counter each opposition team.

Programme area leader for computing, John Gell, said: “It was a very interesting visit for everyone. Getting to see a very different industry and how they use latest technology to develop the business meant that students could use these examples within their assignments. Everyone really enjoyed the tour of the impressive stadium and seeing the systems in operation, which go into making a very successful football club.”
