Nottinghamshire residents invited to war talk

The Western Front Association would like new members to come along and learn about the First World War.

The nearest branch to Nottinghamshire is Chesterfield and member Mark Macartney, said: “We don’t want to limit anyone with an interest in the First World War to think that they can’t cross the county border to come to our talks, the more the merrier.”

The Western Front Association was formed in 1980 to maintain interest in the First World War The WFA works to perpetuate the memory, courage and comradeship of all, from all sides, on all Fronts: on land, at sea, in the air and on the Home Front. The Western Front Association is non-political and does not seek to glorify war.

The next Branch Meeting will be on Tuesday 1st December 2015, at 7.30pm at Chesterfield Labour Club, Unity House, 113 Saltergate.

(Entrance to Club car park is on Tennyson Ave reached via St Margaret’s Drive from Saltergate direction) and the speaker will be Sean Godfrey, giving a talk “Disaster at Hooge - July 1915”.

He will examine the life and death of a group of British soldiers in the flamethrower attack at Hooge and the British counter-attack.

Mark said: “This promises to be a very interesting presentation by an expert in his field, we are honoured to have secured Sean to do this talk.”
