NOTTINGHAMSHIRE: One call-out during firefighter industrial action

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue dealt with one incident during the four-hour period of industrial action earlier today (13th November) by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU).

The fifth period of industrial action took place between 10am and 2pm, a spokesman said.

During that time the service received six 999 calls, five of which did not require an emergency response.

The one incident attended was dealt with by crews responding from a picket line when a motorcyclist was involved in an incident near to Highfields Fire Station, in Nottingham.

Chief fire officer Frank Swann said: “Thankfully only six calls were received into fire control during the period of planned industrial action and I’m grateful to the crews from Highfields for responding to the incident involving a motorcyclist.

“Due to the small number of calls we received, our contingency plans coped well during this period of industrial action but we are continuing to recruit additional staff to support our efforts for any future strikes.

“As this is a matter between the FBU and the Government at a national level, we hope that negotiations will resume in order to bring an end to this dispute as soon as possible.”
