Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service announce strike plans

A one day strike will be held by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service in Mansfield and Ashfield on Thursday.

The strike will run between 9am on Thursday to 9am on Friday and is part of the long-running dispute between the Fire Brigades Union and the Government over pension arrangements.

The Union also plans on holding further industrial action between 10am and 5pm on Saturday 21st June.

Chief Fire Officer John Buckley said: “The Service will respond to incidents with trained firefighters using recognised fire and rescue equipment but, with the level of operational cover significantly lower than usual, it may take longer for crews to get there.

“I would therefore urge people to take extra care, either while at home, at work, or when out and about visiting family and friends. Naturally we would prefer to prevent incidents from occurring whenever possible but, if they do, we will respond,” he said.

The Service will NOT respond to Automatic Fire Alarms during industrial action unless it is followed up with a 999 call stating that there is a genuine emergency.

In the event of an actual fire, businesses with premises where fire alarms go direct to a collecting station should carry out a full evacuation and dial 999 to report it.
