Nottinghamshire County Councillor hands in anti-fracking petition at County Hall

Councillor John Peck, who represents Sherwood Forest on Nottinghamshire County Council, will today (December 13) present a petition against fracking at a full council meeting.

The petition, which has reached 3030 signatures, will be handed to the Chairman of the County Council, Sue Saddington, on behalf “Frack Free Sherwood Forest and Edwinstowe.

Addressing the County Council on behalf of the group, Coun Peck said: “Sherwood Forest is an international tourist attraction and many of the signatures were collected in Sherwood Forest.

"Many tourists said they visited the forest regularly and were horrified that fracking could even be considered in an area of such natural beauty.

"A number of the signatories live in countries which originally embraced fracking but have now banned it.”

Fracking has become a contentious issue around north Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, with other anti-fracking groups set up in Ashfield and Shirebrook.
