Nottinghamshire County Council pay to be discussed

The annual Pay Policy Statement, listing the pay, terms and conditions of 9,428 employees directly employed by Nottinghamshire County Council will be discussed at next week’s full council meeting (27th March).

All local authorities have a legal duty to publish a Pay Policy Statement, which includes information about how Nottinghamshire County Council’s Chief Executive and senior officers are paid and how this relates to the pay of other County council staff.

Under national agreements, pay for the Council’s most senior officers has been frozen since 2008.

The updated Pay Policy Statement lists a number of senior managers from the NHS who transferred to the County Council in April 2013 as part of national changes to the way Public Health services are delivered. Their pay and conditions are protected for two years by law.

The document also highlights key employment policies including how salaries and terms and conditions of employment are set, as well as redundancy and early retirement agreements.

Coun Alan Rhodes, leader of Nottinghamshire County Council said: “Public spending is under greater scrutiny than ever before and I welcome the opportunity to highlight our pay policies in full detail on our website to support open and transparent decision making.

“We’ve looked very hard at every opportunity to save money by changing how we work and the services we provide. This means we’ve already been able to reduce the number of management jobs by 220 posts - around 25% - with a further 75 posts likely to be removed later this year. In addition, two service director posts – very senior manager positions at the County Council – have also recently been removed.”

The Pay Policy document will be published on the County Council’s website by Tuesday 1 April.
