Nottinghamshire A Level students brace themselves for results day

Nottinghamshire A Level students who will find out their results this Thursday (18 August) are being reassured that there is plenty of help and advice available on their next move no matter what their results are.

Last year schools and academies in Nottinghamshire offering post-16 education reported a 98.4 percent pass rate, which continues a long trend of A Level success for the county’s students.

Nottinghamshire County Council is advising students who do not get the grades that they are hoping for to contact their school or college to find out their options from specialist advisers, including resitting some or all their exams or taking other qualifications.

If a student has just missed their grades they should contact their chosen college or university to see if they can still get in or go through the clearing process to find an alternative place.

Students may want to consider gaining hands-on experience through an apprenticeship and can find out more about local placements through Futures at www.futuresadvice.co.uk

The Council also has its own apprenticeship scheme with 52-week placements in areas such as business administration, customer service and retail.

Councillor Liz Plant, Vice-Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee, said: “It’s a very tense time for the thousands of Nottinghamshire young people waiting for their A Levels results this week as a lot of hard work has gone into preparing for their exams and completing coursework.

“Some students will be receiving the great news that they’ve done better than expected, but there will be some young people who unfortunately don’t do as well as they hoped and we advise they take their time and work out the best way forward.

“There is plenty of help and advice out there on higher education options as well as training alternatives such as apprenticeships.”
