No ‘no shows’ for dedicated student Neve

Any parent with children at secondary school will be aware of the daily battle to get their teenage offspring out of the house and on their way to school in the morning.

But not so for Garibaldi College student Neve Cotton, who has gone a total of seven years without ever missing a day at school.

Year 9 student Neve appeared in the Chad in 2011 after finishing her studies at the Samuel Barlow Primary School, in Clipstone, with 100 per cent attendance.

And now the 14-year-old has completed her lower school education at Garibaldi without missing a day or even being late - giving her 100 per cent attendance for the past seven years at school.

Speaking about her achievement Neve, who hopes to become a midwife when she leaves school, told Chad that she does find it difficult sometimes but would not dream of missing a day of education.

She said: “If I get up feeling in a mood I know that once I’m in school the day usually turns out better than I thought it would.”

“I like most of my lessons and I always get to school on time even if I get up a bit late. It’s important to start the day well.”

Neve has now been presented with £50 in vouchers as a reward for her efforts by headteacher Chris James.

He said: “I’m really impressed by Neve’s dedication.

“She makes sure that she comes in to college even when she is not feeling very well.

“Not only does she have perfect attendance over the last three years, but she has also never been late. Neve is making great progress at Garibaldi and sets a great example to all.”
