No major incident during fire strike

Fire crews were able to responded to 37 incidents during strike action by Fire Brigades Union members on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service relied on specially recruited contingency crews along with firefighters who were not members of the FBU.

Incidents included three house fires, a road traffic collision, a shed fire, and a number of small grass fires.

Chief Fire Officer John Buckley said: “Using limited resources, the service has once again been able to cope with the demands placed upon it this Bank Holiday weekend.

“I would like to thank the people of Nottinghamshire for their help in ensuring that incidents have been kept to a minimum, and for helping Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to succeed in creating safer communities.

“However, the current situation is not ideal, and I sincerely hope that the parties involved in this dispute can resume the necessary negotiations to bring it to an end as quickly and effectively as possible.”
