Nine memorable Mansfield moments from the 1990s

August 1990 - Mansfield records its warmest ever day as the mercury reaches 34.6C, or 94.3F

June 8, 1990, the Queen visits Portland Training College;

December 15, 1990 – Water Meadows leisure complex opens on the site of the old Cattle Market and Central Bathes

May 1992 - Mansfield Town finish third in Division Four to secure promotion to Division Three;

June 17, 1994 – The final phase of Mansfield’s inner ring road is officially opened;

October 4, 1994 - October 4, Ecstatic fans swarm the Field Mill pitch after Mansfield Town, of Division Three, knock out Premier League high-flyers Leeds United in the League Cup. After a 1-0 win at Elland Road in the first leg, Mansfield held out for a 0-0 draw at home, despite the 77th minute sending off of Notts County loanee Colin Hoyle on his debut;

November 20, 1995 ‑ Transport Secretary Sir George Young officially opens the Robin Hood railway line to Mansfield, ending the town’s unwanted title as the largest town in Britain without a railway station.

December 1997 - Mansfield Palace Theatre reopens after a £3-million, seven-month refurbishment;

October 26, 1998 – Supermarket giant Asda opens a new superstore off Old Mill Lane, Forest Town.
