Newsy Gladys celebrates turning 102

Born two years before the Great War ended in 1918 'news loving' Gladys Richards has celebrated turning 102.

Born on April 17, 1916, Gladys started work at John Players & Sons, a tobacco and cigarette manufacturer based in Nottingham, aged 14, and worked there until she retired aged 60.

Gladys said her “longevity is due to hard work and a determination to be independent,” and she “always took an interest in the news and always had an opinion on it”.

Gladys married and widowed twice.

She moved to Selston on her first marriage and had two children Clive and Pauline.

She now lives at Sutton Court Residential Home on Priestsic Road, Sutton, and has 10 great, great grandchildren.
